The 22nd Annual UIC Blues Cabaret will be held on Friday, February 24. Show time is 7:00pm and will be held on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago at the UIC Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt Road. The cabaret over the years have hosted the best of the Chicago blues artists. Chicago blues great ranging from the late Koko Taylor, Son Seals, Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials, Byther Smith, Johnny Johnson, Willie Kent, Grana’ Louise, Valerie Wellington, Big Time Sarah, Sharon Lewis, Cary Bell, Mississippi Heat, Lurie Bell, Billy Branch, Lonnie Brooks, etc.. Headliner for this year’s show will be the outstanding than Nellie Travis. Opening for Nellie will be WCBS-sponsored artist Toronzo Cannon.

The UIC Blues Cabaret is always a fun and enjoyable event. Attendees are welcomed to a free soul food buffet, cash bar and plenty of dance floor space to dance the night away to the sounds of hot blues on a cold winter night. The event’s seating is set-up in the classic cabaret style, indicative of the blues and jazz cabarets of the ‘40s and ‘50s, so those in attendance will always be able to find somewhere to sit if they choose to.

Listen for “BlackJack’s Blues Calendar” on 90.9fm WDCB Public Radio on Saturday Nights from 7 to 9 p.m. during Greg Freerksen’s & Leslie Keros’ “Blues Edition”, and sometimes on Thursday nights from 10 till midnight on “Hambone’s Blues Party”.
