Don’t miss the down home feel of the one-of-a-kind Blues Bus appearing at the Maxwell Street Market on Labor Day weekend, Sunday, September 5th. John Johnson sold Blues music from this bus for years at the historic market and it became an icon of the market. The bus is an artistic piece that represents the commerce that began before Chicago was a city with Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable’s trading post through to the economic opportunity fostered at the Maxwell Street Market, “where the only color that matters is green.” The bus also represents social change with the philosophy that music and art can break down differences between people of different backgrounds. The Maxwell Street Market has always been a place where Chicago’s racial and ethnic groups have come together.

Take a photo of the bus, and see Elder John Johnson, his wife Marie, and members of the Maxwell Street Foundation restoring the bus’s artwork while you shop at the market and listen to Blues music by Chainsaw DuPont & the Blues Warriors. The bus will be there all day and the Johnsons & Chainsaw DuPont will be there from 11 am to 3 pm.

The Maxwell Street Market is open 7 am to 3 pm every Sunday and is located at Desplaines Street and Roosevelt Road/640 W. Roosevelt Road.

DAVE WELD AND THE IMPERIAL FLAMES have three great gigs to announce, on the wave created by the debut Delmark cd “Burning love”. We also thank Living Blues magazine for the great review and for being number 8 on the Living Blues play list for the month of July, up from number 13 for the month of June.
This first gig is this saturday, aug 21st at the Blues Bar, 2 w Busse Ave, Mt prospect IL, the band kicks at 9:30, with an opening acoustic set by Studebaker John. Great bar and lots of fun!
The second gig, Sunday September 5th and our best gig, is at the new Buddy Guy’s Legends, 700 s Wabash, the band kicks about 9:30, but better go early, get some of the great food, or shoot pool upstairs, and take in some of the very last days of summer!
Labor day weekend is really special and you can party all night and sleep in on Labor day Monday! Sounds like the real deal to me!
The third gig is at Katerina’s, on Sept 11th, Saturday, at 1920 w Irving Park! the band kicks at 10, the food is classy and its a fun, cozy place, with a fun classy crowd.
