The International Blues Challenge represents the worldwide search for blues bands and solo/duo blues performers ready for the international stage, yet just needing that extra big break. The world’s largest gathering of blues musicians will take place on Beale Street, with over 20 clubs hosting the challengers and fans. In addition to featuring these final rounds of the prestigious blues music competition, the IBC event week will offer seminars, showcases, master classes, film screenings, networking events, book signings, and receptions for blues societies, fans, and professionals.
The Sean McKee Band based in Chicago Illinois, is known for putting on an electrifying show pulling influences from Robert Johnson and Django Reinhardt all the way to Led Zeppelin and the Tedeschi Trucks Band. With a goal of being the best melting pot of the sounds that inspire them, they perform a majority of original music on stage and only play covers that they connect with leaving no room for inauthenticity. It’s hard to believe a group of musicians younger than the age of 30 could emit the sounds of a lifetime of heartache, but by doing so is what makes them an act you won’t want to miss!
A passionate performance is what you will expect from Joe Asselin: based out of Champaign Illinois. He has released multiple solo recordings on all streaming platforms and as well performed and recorded with Kilborn Alley Blues Band from 2000-2009 and the Black Eyed Lilliies. Performing for his second time in the International Blues Challenge as a solo artist, you will appreciate his approach to incorporating songwriting and traditional blues. Joe will be performing acoustic guitar mixed with harmonica and his suitcase drum set. Joe Asselin will be a fantastic act to catch at the 2024 IBC

Joe Asselin is an incredible folk, bluegrass, country, and blues player from the Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, area. He is currently playing in the duo the Black Eyed Lillies. Today he stopped by the shop and after hearing him rip through a few of his favorite licks - we couldn't stop ourselves from asking him to do a demo oh his Martin of choice.
Flat Head Ford pays homage to the great rockabilly artists of the past with this new original hot rod song by Joe Asselin. This video tells the story of an attractive female on her way to cruise the country when she gets pulled over then decides to run from the officer. A fun story and some very cool hot rods......written by Joe Asselin and the video is as well created by Joe Asselin using a Go Pro and a little drone footage..
Here is a quick video of my original called “John Wayne.” It’s much faster as I usually do this song finger pickin. But decided to try out some flat picking stuff. Hope you enjoy.
